Placement of margins during crown prep

Hi guys just want to know your opinions when doing  an anterior crown prep.

Say for example you wanted to crown UL central incisor, with a PFM. The
Patient has good periodontal health. BPE in that upper central sextant is 1.
Where would you place the shoulder margin on facial aspect and chamfer on
palatal aspect with respect to the gingival margin?

Would you place the crown just a tad bit below the gingival margin so the
junction is hidden? or just at the level of the margin , or above?

I suppose if you were to place it above then it would be easier to record.

Thanks!!

Also if anyone can point me to any sites that show this area in a bit more
detail that would be great.

First off I would use an all ceramic crown.
I use Chromatech.
Next I don't ever use a shoulder, a chamfer is adequate
0.5 to 1.0 mm.

Bond in place with Calibra.

All ceramics show no margin.
Whether supra or sub gingival.

If you need metal substructure consider Captek.
The bonded all porcelain restoration is much stronger
than PFM.

If the gingival sulcus is healtht and 1mm, I would
use a full ceramic restoration without hesitation and
would place the margin 0.25 or less from the gingival crest.

Keep in mind that doing a single upper central incisor is
quite a challenge to match to a natural incisor.
Consider a custom shade or do both.

Ask yourself if a stacked porcelain veneer would suffice.
