Yes, four lower front teeth. From advanced periodontitis. I don't
smoke, I didn't brush and floss for a long time, but do now. One of
the biggest problems is one of having no basis on what to expect.
First, what could I eat and what couldn't I eat. I take it apples are
out and ribs. but what about hot dogs ? chicken curry. Does it just
hook on ? or do you use adhesives? Is it necessary to clean after each
meal? (I'm figuring 'yes' but don't know for sure). How do you handle
making out with a potential romantic interest? How do you handle
sleeping with someone (in both the literal and figurative terms)
I also am concerned that I have no way to tell what is a bad fit or a
good fit
If I say 'this doesn't feel right' I feel my dentist is unlikely to
say "yeah, I screwed up, I was having a bad day, partials were never
my strong suit". More likely, he will say 'well it was a difficult
case' or 'that's the best we can do these days, you just have to get
used to it'. At a couple hundred dollars a pop, I kinda want to get it
right the first time.
I may sound skeptical but I'm not comfortable on blindly choosing a
dentist.

Well I have a gf of 3 months and on Wednesday I'm about to lose a
molar (#19) for a few months while I wait for an implant. I'm 34.
Though I realize this probably doesn't compare to losing 4 front teeth
forever, I still don't know how the hell I'm going to tell her. The 3
month point in a relationship is a little tricky for something like
this to come up. It's like you're each starting to think (and talk)
about taking things to a deeper level, yet it's still early enough
that one can feel free to bail out at the drop of a hat if there's
something you really don't like. I don't have a clue how I'm going to
tell her. To tell her before the extraction and freak her out with
the unknown. To tell her after the extraction and show her that the
loss of a molar for a few months might be something with which she
could cope, to not tell her at all and just don't open my mouth very
wide for a few months (not sure how the heck I'd get away with it, but
who knows). I was even looking at partial dentures this morning when
I found out the news, but they look like retainers and I can't imagine
that she wouldn't notice the thing if we were intimate.
Feel free to email me if you want.

Ron, tell me she is not so shallow as to drop you due to the loss of a
molar! If that is the case then drop her. Do not call her again. Delete her
from speed dial.

To tell you the truth, we have no idea how adaptable you are. Some people
can run across the country on an artificial leg, and others can barely make
it across the room. Depending on a few physical factors and your ability to
adapt, there should not be much change in diet with losing 4 lower front
teeth.
|Does it just hook on ?
Sometimes, depends on a few things, we can't see from this side of a
monitor.
| or do you use adhesives?
Some need to, some don't. They help, especially in the begining while you
get used to your new denture
| Is it necessary to clean after each

You only have to brush the teeth you want to keep.

Some people like to gum it, some like to smile. What turns your crank?
We suggest keeping your denture out for a total of about 8 hours a day. Most
people find it most convenient to do that while sleeping. When would you
prefer?
| I also am concerned that I have no way to tell what is a bad fit or a
| good fit
Simple, a bad fit is going to cause pain or be flopping around. Can you tell
if a shoe fits or not?

Getting it right the first time is only part of the equation. Your gums are
going to shrink and your mouth is going to change from the day you lose a
tooth till the day you die. Your denture is going to need maintenance along
the way.

You could choose a Denturist.
