The newsgroup goes through cycles and it's presently in one that I don't
see myself being a part of at this time.

Too much to do to be bothered with Jan Drew related issues hundreds of
times per day.  There seems no *hope* for improvement in the immediate
future so I'll just put my head in the sand for a little while.

Plot Summary for
People vs. Larry Flynt, The (1996)

Larry Flynt is the hedonistically obnoxious, but indomitable, publisher
of Hustler magazine. The film recounts his struggle to make an honest
living publishing his girlie magazine and how it changes into a battle
to protect the freedom of speech for all people.

Summary written by Kenneth Chisholm {kchishol@execulink.com}

Strip club owner Larry Flynt and his wife, Althea, create a pornographic
magazine that ignores society's morals and taboos. "Hustler" magazine
brings the Flynts not only millions in profit but also the wrath of
"decent" people. Flynt and his overburdened attorney find themselves in
courtrooms all over the nation defending Larry against criminal and
civil charges. In the meantime, Flynt is beset by paralysis, the result
of an assassination attempt, drug addiction, mental illness, and
Althea's failing health.

Summary written by Allen Brown {browna@ohsu.edu}

The life and times of "An Unseemly Man," Larry Flynt, publisher of
Hustler magazine. This movie's got it all: From his humble beginnings
selling moonshine, to his multi-million dollar publishing empire. Along
the way he gets shot and paralysed, imprisoned, and taken to court
thanks to his nemesis Jerry Falwell.

Good film.

LF does a cameo in the film, did you spot it ?

Falwell lost in the Supreme Court because he violated
copywrite laws.

Fair Dinkum if you ask me.

That is why Flint came out in defense of Bill Clinton a few years back,
when Bill was busy being a typical member of a large segment of NA
middle aged males (and perhaps a lagre proportion of females too). Don't
think that kind of thing happens at ALL in Europe... ;-)

I think that Woody Haroldston (sp?) did a good job as Flint, from the
clips I saw on the Tee Vee, back a few years ago... Anyone know if he
got a nomination or anything for his performance? Or for that matter, if
that film got nominated for anything? Like perhaps best sh.t-disturbing

Apple Butter

Boil 6 lbs of cut up tart apples (do not peel or core) till tender

Force through food mill or sieve to get pulp

Add cinnamin (~1 1/2 tsp) and cloves (~1/4 tsp) to taste
2C sugar (I use Splenda™ since my wife is diabetic)

Simmer until reduced by almost 1/2 (or your desired thickness)
(this took over 3 hours for my last batch)

Place in jars, adjust caps, and process for 10 minutes in boiling
water bath.

Our apple tree produced a bumper crop this year and we just couldn't
bake enough pies, fix salads, and eat them raw without wasting some.

This was a nice rainy Sunday activity that made the house smell
heavenly and gave us some sugar free apple butter that I know didn't
have a lot of ground up bugs and worms in it.

Hmmmmmmmm....
I buy apple butter and after reading the recipe, I realize that I don't
understand the difference between applesauce and apple butter.  Is the
pulp removed; that being the reason to "get pulp"???  Is apple butter
free of the pulp and that being the difference between butter and
sauce????

This newsgroup can be highly informative!!!

Applesauce is what you simmer for 3-4 hours to get apple butter (plus
applesauce usually has less sugar and spice).

How about some healthy but good fixin's? Like how to make a good grilled
chicken marinade that doesn't violate healthy diet dictums? I'll try to
find some recipes too, but most of what I make for the kids ends up
tasting like shoe leather with hot sauce on it.

Okay...well really not a recipe...but what exactly is Kansas City Barbeque. I
have heard of it, but have never been sure exactly what are the characteristics
of such a delight. I was treated to genuine North Carolina BBQ recently, and it
has a thin, vinegary sauce...it was quite good!

First a short primer

1. good BBQ must be cooked slow (250-280F), and not directly over the coals,
with wood on the fire

2. most areas of the country that BBQ have this down to an art - it's all
good

3. whatever locale you live in does BBQ better than anyone else

4. I'm in KC therefore we have the best BBQ in the world.

5. of course it's OK to have for breakfast - why wouldn't you?

---------

Actually a couple things, more pork is done around here but beef is also
(and poultry).

The most popular wood used around here is hickory - but not exclusively.

KC sauce is tomato based and better have some kick to it (cayenne pepper
etc.).  Head south or east and molasses in the sauce is the difference and
less kick.  Keep going southeast the tomato base disappears and you find the
vinegar based variety.

I could go on forever - but not today.

IF* you have an unanswered health problem,,,,,,,,CHECK THE TEETH!

NOT by a mainstream dentist, but an Alt. dentist who KNOWS the dangers of metal
in the mouth and root canals, and follows correct protocol.

I did, it saved my life.

Mercury is Poisonous.

There is NO safe form of Mercury in living tissue.

The mercury vapor from dental amalgam alone is a bigger source than all the
other sources together.

U151 identifies mercury as a toxic waste.

Mercury is also recovered from discarded products and wastes such as
chlor-alkali wastes, dental amalgams, fluorescent light tubes, electronic
devices, and others. The mercury is vaporized in a retort and collected by
condensation. Condensed mercury is then distilled to remove impurities.

***The Environmental Protection Agency is working to reduce the amount of
mercury
in the environment *****

http://www.ehs.ucsf.edu/Manuals/CSM/Csm_Chapter9.htm

17. DENTAL AMALGAM

Dental amalgams are mixtures of mercury with silver tin alloy. Cal-EPA
regulates them as ***chemical waste.*** Submit Chemical Waste Removal Form for
its disposal.
