What symptoms does he hope to solve with equilibration (bite
balancing)? In the absence of problems, I would be very skeptical
about letting a dentist grind away at my teeth.

Occlusion (how the teeth bite together) isn't fully understood even
today. How it affects things such as TMD and bruxism is a source of
debate among dental professionals. Every dentist does a small, limited
'balancing' whenever a new filling or crown is done, to make sure it
fits into the old scheme of how you bite together.

Since I grind my teeth, so my Dentist consider that I need to do bite
balancing. And I like to know it is a new technic or not. According my
Dentist, it is a new technic and not many Dentist know it.
Please give me some idea.
Thanks.

A dentist grinding down your teeth will NOT help your parafunctional habit
of grinding on your own teeth.  If it would have helped, the wear worn on
your teeth by this activity (yourself) would have corrected the problem
itself.

In fact an equilibration may just give you a 'better bite' to clench
even harder.

<headachehope.com> shows something that will help.

This is not new, almost all dentists know how.
Newer information shows us that 'balancing the bite'
(occlusal adjustment) will not stop clenching/grinding..

Minor adjustments to eliminate interferences and
construction of an NTI is the most effective treatment.

If it's the same a equilibrating most dentists have quit doing it except to
eliminate gross interferences.  Others may disagree.

OTOH, any time anyone in any field says hardly anyone but him/her knows how
to do something - run.  It has served me well in life.

This might be an indication of where you should be running fast.

Tell us your symptoms and complaints and we MIGHT be able to guess whether
or not this is legitimate.

New technique????  Back in 1937 it was.

He is the only one who can do it?  If you are on some tiny pacific island
with only one dentist, he's right.

I am in Boston area.
I guess I have grinding problem, I have gaps between bottom teeth and
gum which are caused by grinding.
I have one implement at my left bottom teeth area, I have not had
crown yet.
Currently, I can only use my right side of teeth.
Since my Dentist told my that bite balancing is a new technic and he
knows how to do it but not other Denist.
I told him I need second opinion, he said to me "Make sure the Dentist
know what bite and bounce is".
That is the reason I start shopping around information.

Please use your feet and walk away from this place.

Go to:   www.headacheprevention.com  and find a provider near you who does
the NTI.

Don't let anyone re-shape your teeth until you have worn an NTI for a month
or so.  And, then only if they have a better reason to do so.  Notches at
the gum-line are usually due to night-time clenching with isometric grinding
efforts which bend the teeth and cause microfraactures in these areas.
Re-shaping your teeth could very well make the clenching more severe.

I bet your treatment plan from this dentist was over $7K.

I lost two left bottom teeth, I have one implant and it is ready to
put a crown. Should I do bite balancing first, then let my dentist put
the crown or
reverse?
Should I do another implant then, let my Dentist put two crown all at
the same time?

And, I found a Dentist who is D.D.S. My original Dentist is D.M.D.
What is the difference between D.D.S. and D.M.D.

Thanks for your help.

Skip the "balancing" as there is no proof it will accomplish anything.

Only if you are pain-free.

Nothing except for attending a different school.

Unless the "BALANCING" part is what the doctor is doing with his
checkbook ........

Gaps between the bottom teeth and gum? ... do you mean that your gums
have receeded or do you mean that your teeth have a indent near the
gum line?

They look like "notch" between teeth and gum.
