I have odontophobia, and was investigating the possiblities for treatment
under laughing gas. My therapist made the call for me, and also sendt a a
memo to the dentist about my odontophobia. The weird thing is, Ive offcorse
checked websites that dentist who use laughing gas, and its highly
recomended for anxiety patients etc. Well the weird thing is that the
dentist said he thought general anestecia(probably spelled wrong) was way
better, and that laughing gas was complicated and that I could have an
unpleasant experience with it if I panicked while on gas and removed the
mask during dental surgery.
I thought laughing gas was used to cure such panic attacs, rather then
causing them etc. He also said to my theraphist that I couldnt take any
benzos the day I took the gas, wile Ive read on some dentist sites that its
commonly used in addition to gas.

Sounds a bit weird alright that he suggested GA without exploring any
alternatives first, because it's used as a last resort. Why not have a
look around

There's also an article on laughing gas
(http://www.dentalfearcentral.com/laughing_gas.html) and a brand-new
message board (please feel free to post there!)
Cheers =)

I've always found that nitrous oxide helps me get through dental
procedures. Normally I don't have much trouble after getting the shot,
however. I'm not sure how helpful it would be for you.

I would look for something less then full general anesthetic before I
went for GA. Have you looked into oral sedation? They basically load
you up on a benzodiazepines so that you are very relaxed during the
prodecure, and have almost no memory of it after the fact.
