I was asked how this stuff makes me a better dentist. The short answer
is that it keeps me from doing *wishful thinking dentistry*. When I
would dearly love to preserve some part of a tooth b/cs it would make
filling it easier, the stuff shows me that there is still decay in the
most inaccessible corner of the proximal box; or that this buccal margin
must be pushed subgingival b/cs the caries goes down there, or under
this Am that I just took off, and the dentin is stained black, whether
that area is sound or not, as it is only 1 mm at best above the squashed
pulp chamber.
One can use it with the matrix in place, with curettes, and so not
damage the matrix and so protect the gingiva in that area. Those that
use the Laser can do the same here, but again, the rub is knowing where
the caries ends.

If the tool works for you and makes you better, go for it! Personally, I
think paying close attention to what you are doing, working with good
quality loupes and you can skip such ancillary tools.
