How normal is it to have pain after a very thorough cleaning by a hygienist?
Not only mouth, but my glands are painful and a bit swollen - I took
amoxicillin pre-cleaning because of a temporary prosthetic in my foot. I am 40
and have never had this effect post cleaning. Any Dx's?? possible nueralgia,
sensitivity, or does it occur in some patients?

Normal to have some sensitivity to cold and soreness after a scaling,
esp. if there had been a lot of subgingival calculus.
Occasionally have seen infection, esp. with patients with pre-existing
periodontal disease--presumably from some errant piece of dislodged
calculus impacting into a gingival pocket.
If you see gingival swelling and/or bad taste indicating purulent
discharge, check with your dentist.  Otherwise, some salt water rinsing
(1/2 tsp./8 oz.) should do the trick.
