Hi folks,
Yesterday my niece fell against a coffee table
and the impact pushed her right front tooth into
the gum, just a millimeter or two is showing. We took
her to the emergency room and they said she was ok
but should see a dentist in the next day or two
hopefully I'll be able to get her in to see the dentist
Friday. She is 31 months old, is there anything I should
be thinking about for the long term health of the tooth
or anything that should definitely be done to ensure the
success of the permanent tooth when it comes?
Thanks in advance for any advice- Kyle

Worst case scenario is that the underlying developing adult tooth
was damaged. This IME is kinda rare since GOD built children to
survive these little traumas.
See the Pedodontist or a GP asap for x-ray and evaluation.
Try your best to not be a worrying parent.
Best wishes,

You do not have to worry about the permanent tooth.
However, I you should have taken her to the dentist ASAP not the
emergency room.
They are not qualified to make tx recommendation with regard to teeth.
Second in the emergency room they have a oral maxillofacial surgeon on
staff 24/7 who is a dentist first and has dental training. This person
should have been called if not a pedodontic resident on staff
depending on the hours.
When a tooth gets knocked out etc... time is of the essence usually
for permanent teeth this is 30min not 2-3 days. I realize your neice
does not have her permanent teeth and that things may be different but
generally this is the thing for parents to do. We can not expect the
public to know the difference between permanent dentition and
decidious so to keep things simple, in the future see the dentist
first, demand to see oral surgeon in the least to check things out if
you are already in a hospital.

Almost this exact scenario happened to my son at age two - both top incisors
driven up into the gums.Years later, his permanent teeth came in fine - only
one small defect - a small "dent" on a lateral incisor ... Probably
(hopefully) your neice will have a similar result.
