Are copies of X-Rays diagnostic (good enough)?

I've run into this situation at UCLA dental school. I had copies of
fairly recent x-rays but they felt only originals were diagnostic. The
originals were a tad lighter.

Sometimes the copies do not come out very good.  This can be due to how the
copies were made, or due to the originals only barely having enough
contrast.  Digital scans of the originals is more predictable.  Actually,
starting with digital images is best as each copy is just as good as the
original.

I haven't seen your particular films, of course, but I've seen lots of
xray films over the years -- both originals and copies.

Copies vary greatly in quality. Some are almost as good as the
originals, and some are totally unreadable. Most are somewhere in
between.

And even some originals are not diagnostic, either.
