Just Had Zoom Done, the Results and I Need An Opinion

I just recently had the Zoom procedure done (actually the Zoom
material with the Rembrandt light). Here are results:

My teeth went from yellow glaze to a sort of fluoresent/pearl white
color. The upper back teeth stayed a dull yellow/brown and the dentist
told me that these are the roots and can not be bleached. I have
streaks of bright/pearly white here and there. Is this a typical
result? Is it true about the roots? This was one downside of the
procedure - it made the roots contrast with the new white color. When
I smile wide or laugh hard it doesn't look good. It looked better
before the procedure. On the whole though I'm satisfied as in general
my teeth look white.

PS. I had a little sensitivity during and after the procedure, not
enough though to take a pain reliever.

I would not want to leave this like this. There are root coverage
procedures possible to do, and failing that, there are root coverage
prostheses available as well. I've seen some of these at the dental
conventions, and I'd give that a try if you don't want to see the
Periodontist for gingival grafting to cover those roots (again, it is
possible, but not in every case). You can discuss these options with
your dentist.

I did not notice these roots before the procedure. Could the Zoom
procedure have caused this in anyway or is it just that the contrast
made the roots appear darker?

Contrast.

I think it is the contrast effect. As W_B has said, the gum replacement
prosthesis is called the Gingimol. While I have no personal expereience
with it, it DID look like a reasonable solution to this type of problem
at one of the dental congresses I addended. You might want to check that
out on the Web.

Thank you for this information. I will look into and talk with my
dentist. Is it ok that my dentist used the Zoom gel but used the
Rembrandt light? Is this procedure a good value at US$400.00?

That's something for the USA-ian dentists to evaluate for you ($$$). As
far as the light goes, again, I'm not familiar enough with the Zoom!
procedure to be able to say.

The light/gel combo probably really doesn't matter as long
as a good result is achieved.

$400 is a bargain !
