Nuts and toothwear

Does eating nuts cause tooth to wear faster?  I know they are hard,
but not "gritty", and isn't it grit that actually causes more wear
while chewing?

Seems that in Spain farmers were keen on eating nuts - and all the
time broke the shells with their teeth. Cost them a few seconds, and
their teeth...
