I'd buy an 'Eva' Dig XRay sys, and get my Laser fixed.... and I wouldn't even ask to discuss any Mercury articles gleaned off the Wild Wild Web.....
....... WELL ????????????!?!?!?!?
Actually, I might take out a city entertainment permit and take my Mexican Strat and a Pig Nose to the Upper Town and put down a hat in front of the Chateau Champlain and play for the American and Japenese tourists... The Queen Elizabeth II will be in town on Monday...
OK, I'll shut up now.... Hope y'all have appreciated that I've left y'all in relative peace this week.... Goddammmmnn Sympatico.... Chairs SP

Roy Brown - 02 Oct 2004 15:04 GMT SP,
You have to lighten up with your security issues.
The login with your email addy is required to access the https:/ which then encrypts your password. I think this is done to allow you access outside of their domain. (It let me access my mail using the web interface from Steve's in Michigan, where they denied access to the news servers.)

I think I understand what you mean: If I want to get onto the Web (rare) I need to put my account and internet profile straight so that Sympatico will recognize it. (Yes?/No?)
Well, my Crapintosh's news server permits me to create a bogus addy as I've done here and that's what you see. If you're a real pointy-head, you can ferret out what my addy really is, but most spammers don't go that far (I hope..... for I remember what you said about Sympatico's all-too-easy-to-intercept main addys).
Incidentally, I can do the same thing with the OS of the Crapintosh and it will work fine, unless I have to send info on a (hopefully) secure page, such as when I finally do get around to posting my Laser for sale on eBay. That is what is going to be the next project. Thanks SP

No you don't need to alter your altered profiles on the computer. You need to go to the unsecure page (http:/), provide the main e-addy (or user ID) they| gave you to log in. If that matches their database, then you are redirected to a https: page where you enter your password. If that matches then you can access and modify your accounts, create your other 5 email accounts, set up your web space etc.. If you accept the cookie, it will retain your ID simplifying the log in process. Once done, and with the right settings on your system your bogus reply to's should foil most but the pointy head ferrets. You are not quite as close

You my friend have been blessed with a name a lot less common than mine. You are already 1 step ahead of the spammers. Maybe even 2. My wife uses her name for her main email account, it is 5 letters longer than mine and she gets more than 5 times LESS spam. IIRC Bell provides you with the your billing name as the main addy, if G1B3B* is familiar and the directory listing differs from the billing (like mine) then you are even further ahead of the spammers. The multiple spelling possibilities of your name makes you even less susceptible. I'm in the shotgun's range, where you might only catch a few stray pellets. Go forth and get that real addy.
For me, until recently Brown was the 3rd highest listing in the phone directory, Wong has recently bumped us down a notch. IIRC when we first signed the mortage, I had to sign off 17 separate times saying I was not the same deadbeats as my namesakes that were on the registers for having bad debts. OTOH, my wife to be used her maiden name (1 of 2 in the Toronto directory) and did not have to sign off anything. (I had to endure a quasi inquisition on my financial history on the drive home).
