'RULES' WRITER'S DENTAL DISASTER

September 19, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVE

A world-famous love expert says her celebrity dentist gave her
"gigantic" teeth that drove her husband away and ruined her health.

Ellen Fein, co-author of the dating bible "The Rules," last week filed
a complaint against Park Avenue dentist Larry Rosenthal with the New
York State Office of Professional Discipline.

She told The Post a routine cosmetic procedure went horribly wrong
eight years ago and still causes her some major sickness today.

"My injuries have been life-altering," Fein, 46, states in the
complaint. "I wake up every single morning with teeth and jaw pain . .
. I also needed an immediate gum graft . . . [and] a root canal.

"I didn't have the prettiest smile, and I was on TV constantly for the
book. I was paying him [Rosenthal] because I thought he was the best,"
Fein said.

Fein — now engaged to another man and working on her fifth book,
"Starting Over" — states that in February 1996, Rosenthal gave her
"gigantic" teeth and "deliberately altered my bite by the placement of
oversized veneers on my teeth."

"My marriage disintegrated — of course there were other issues — but
all the complications that came from the procedure were the things
that led to divorce."

Legal papers show Rosenthal settled at least one out of four
malpractice suits.

In a statement to The Post, Rosenthal said Fein's complaint was
"baseless" and speculates her problems stemmed from treatments by
other dentists after his procedure.

I would say that if her entire relationship with her husband is based on
the size of her teeth:

1) She hasn't lost much, and...

2) perhaps she should not be writing books about relationships (or at least we
shouldn't be reading them).

In earlier years, he liked big hair. She thought she could make the
transition to BIG TEETH easily .......
