Howdy again all, or at least some...

Re: my beloved and all sacred Biolase Millennium 1 laser: The local
Ash/Temple guy (who had a service contract with Biolase until recently)
came in and had a look at it. I was losing power (if you aim it at your
inner wrist at 0.25Watts w/o any air or water and you feel a slight pin
prick, the power is OK).

Well, I tested it and the power is significantly reduced. The A/T tech
tested it with his meter and confirmed that, and opened it up to see
why. He looked around and told me it needed service from the Biolase
Tech. That's about 4200$ US currency, IIRC. I thought about it, and came
to the conclusion that my patient base does NOT merit my using (and
paying for the upkeep of) this Laser. They will not pay what it is worth
to have me use it in their mouths. The laser will therefore rest there
in my operatory until I tire of it and then I'll get rid of it, or store
it in the hopes that one day I'll be able to afford to put it back into
service.

I'm telling you all this not to complain, but to perhaps repeat the
words of Ian Shumann (another adhesive guru) I saw at the ODQ
convention: Unless you have a practice where your patients are paying
top dollar for your work, the laser will NOT pay for itself.

Sadly, I'm coming to this conclusion myself. Our other Laser
practitioner, SF, is just in his infancy with it. I'd be curious to hear
what he thinks about it in a couple of years.

Just a thought, and a perspective.
