Integrating new software with clinical systems

As a lot of you will know my company makes imaging and cosmetic software and
I am looking for some market feedback to help with the design of our next
generation stuff.

Have you found it easy to add 3rd party software to your system? Plug-ins,
add-ons, Digital X-Ray, Cosmetic Software, Intraoral camera modules - that
kind of thing?

How to the system vendors react in your experience?
Did they threaten to withdraw support if add-ins were used? (We find this
quite often).
Did the integration work ok?

We already have integratable software that works with quite a few major
systems in the way that the clinical systems guys intended and that works
well. EG like Schick etc.

Other vendors publically say they can integrate with 3rd party software but
in practice fight tooth & nail to keep this information proprietory so the
dentist has no or little choice.

The reason for asking is that we are doing a pilot in Europe of a technique
I developed that integrates whether the vendor likes it - or not. We would
of course prefer it they did like it.

Any info appreciated - anicdotes etc.

John,

The three big software vendors in the USA all will either integrate or
bridge directly to the vast assortment of digital "add-ons".  My vendor
integrates to those ancillary products.  What you describe is not a problem
here.

Excellent that's very good to hear.

Maybe on this side of the pond there is a different attitude.
Certainly we have had difficulties with several vendors  - one of which was
a very large American outfit - while others sent us comprehensive
interfacing data.

The 'refusal to support' issues reported to us by dentists were from VARs

Any other feedback>?

I just got contacted by a USA corp (presumably they read this) that offered
me an expensive software control will interface with dozens of listed Dental
Systems - all American.
