to save a tooth estimate $2030 even. now the biggest part is the Crown
porc. fuse high noble mtl.
But, didn't I hear somewhere that they could use a "generic" crown kinda
pre-fab. to save some costs? I just got this 'news" and haven't asked
yet.  What should I ask?

It's amazing what you can do. If...
you put your mind to it.

It is possible to use a plastic or stainless steel prefabricated crown.
Most often this is done as a temporary crown, or in children's teeth,
where they are not required to hold up a long time.
When done intentionally for long-term use, they are usually a last
resort before extracting the tooth.  The fit at the gumline and the
bite, the contact with the adjacent teeth cannot be controlled as well.
IOW, this is a poor substitute for a custom-made crown of ceramic or
ceramometal restoration.

Agree with Steve.

I might add that if the tooth is not very visible in your smile,
you might not want porcelain on the biting surface of the crown.

Noble or high noble metal might be a better option.

Also if this tooth is not in the esthetic zone, i.e. a molar, lower
bicuspid, or even an upper second bicuspid, then a
non-precious full cast crown can be made.
Usually at a little less cost.
Also porcelain to non-precious can be made, but they usually don't
look as good.

In the esthetic zone, I usually use all porcelain.
