I'm 33 years old, and until a few months ago I'd never had a dentist suggest
braces. I have had several comment on my teeth grinding, and I have a night
guard I wear intermittently.
I moved and got a new dentist a few months ago and he suggested I get braces
to fix my bite (which I'd never heard was a problem). HE said my teeth would
eventually chip if I didn't. I went to the orthodontist he recommended, but
he was a little wishy-washy about me needing braces for my bite. He said I
had one tooth that needed to be brought back in line, but didn't really seem
concerned about teeth chipping.
There is a small chip out of my top right incisor that has been there a
couple of years. A few weeks ago the back of my bottom left incisor chipped
off. My dentist repaired it with a composite filling, but that night I woke
myself up from grinding and realized I'd chipped off part of the filling and
a little more tooth. He repaired it, but now that tooth is a bit shorter
than the others and now my bottom teeth really do look crooked. He thinks
the teeth chipping is from my bite, more than teeth grinding.
So what I'm wondering is, should I get a second opinion from another dentist,
or from another orthodontist? Also, I hate the way my bottom teeth look now.
Can I have the other teeth ground down a little, or have the shorter one
bonded? I'm going to try to post a photo to my photo gallery...
