EXCELLENT letter to the editor by Thomas J. Pallasch, DDS,MS.   page
16

"The contention that 20 years of literature support for the concept
that periodontal disease has adverse effects on distant tissues and so
forth misleadlingly implies that causation/significant associations
have been established when such is not the case. Years of poorly
performed studies support nothing."

also,

"Disease mongering can be defined as the 'selling of sickness that
widens the boundaries of illness and grows the markets for those who
sell and deliver treatments.'"

Last October when I read in JADA, the article, "relationship of
periodontal disease to disease and disorders at distant sites" I felt
the same way as Dr. Pallasch.  I am happy someone responded.

orthodontics, and dentistry. What is not taught in dental school."

'twould be nice if you posted the entire Pallasch letter as well as
the article author's response. Also a link to the entire original
article seems appropriate.

copyright protection is an issue.

Nope.

Two words:  "reasonable use"

Additionally it's a letter, not a literary work.

PS You are still a moron.

You're in Canada, and not an ADA member, right?  Is your g-mail account
correct as posted?

We do get the ADA journal if we want it. Like everything else, if
you're willing to pay...

Nothing terribly enlightening in either the letter or response.  If
you're curious I could send it to you.

I just received a letter from ONSITE DENTAL CARE OF NEW ENGLAND,
located in Falmouth, Maine.  My mother lives in an assisted living
community in Massachusetts, and they want to see my mother for a check
up.  They use 4 quotes in the letter surround by a big black box.

  (1)  "Undiagnosed dental and oral problems are the leading cause of
malnutrition in the elderly.   BBC NEWS"

  (2)   "Germs found in dental plaque can cause pneumonia in
elderly.  REUTERS"

  (3)   "Bacteria in dental plaque can cause blood clots that induce
heart attacks.  USA TODAY"

  (4)    "Periodontal disease is now considered the second leading
risk for heart disease.  AARP"

....David DiBenedetto, DMD,  author of "Insider's guide to gum
disease, orthodontics and dentistry. What is not taught in dental
school."

Fine medical journals all. :-)
I'll resist the temptation to use these on MY recall cards.
