Extraction site seeping ... biting on gauze too long?

Got a question re>the upper left wisdom molar extraction I discussed in the
thread on pain relief.

Tooth was extracted eight hours ago.

I had been biting down on gauze since then until a few minutes ago, because
(a.) my dentist didn't make clear how long to keep doing it and (b.) it was
still coming out rather bloody.

I was concerned about the bleeding ... FYI, I don't have hypertension, don't
take aspirin and am not on any kind of blood thinners ... so I called my
dentist. He said I'd probably get seepage throughout the night maybe, that
it wasn't a big deal, that saliva mixed with blood was probably making it
look worse than it was. I didn't ask about the gauze.

However, in looking at archived posts here, it seems I should have taken
this out long ago.

So I removed the gauze. I have a slight taste of blood in my mouth, but
blood is not flowing down my chin or anything.

My question to you guys is, by keeping the gauze in so long, did I do
anything that might impede clot formation to where I maybe should check back
with my dentist in the a.m., or do you think I'm OK here? Is there anything
else you guys would recommend? Thanks.
