Had an interesting occurrence this week. I had a patient end up
in the hospital after I extracted 10 teeth and placed an immediate
denture. At first I was wondering what I could possibly have done
better to prevent his present difficulties.
Then I find out:
Instead of going home and taking it easy after the extractions,
he headed straight for the corn fields to help with the harvest.
He hadn't eaten anything.
He began getting woozy and sat down almost passing out.
His 'friends' decided to carry him to a truck and take him to
the doctor. They lift him up and promptly drop him on his head
splitting open his scalp on a rock and giving him a slight concussion.
After a couple of days in the hospital, he comes in for adjustments
and is doing quite well.
Just a warning to AC since he is now working on a slightly different
clientele than he had in the suburbs, some of them may think they
are tougher than they are and not follow post-op instructions very
well.

We get those cornfields all the time here in the city. Were you absent
for that cornfield lecture?

Thanks for the "Head's Up". Soy Beans rolling around on the operatory
floor are a new experience for me.
