Cardiac ablation with artificial valve

I have read that the cardiac ablation has had good to excellent
results for isolating atrial fibulation.  My mother is planning to
have this procedure this summer, which is the earliest the surgeons
are available.  In the meantime, she is being switched to Tikosyn this
week (as Toporal is not controlling the arrythmia).

My mother had an artificial valve implanted a few years ago and also
has a pacemaker.  I understand that there is some increase of risk
with an artificial valve as the catheter wires can get caught up in it
which will require an open heart surgery to correct.

Does anyone here have experience with a cardiac ablation for a patient
that also has an artificial value?

Also, can anyone recommend a surgeon is the Kansas City area (or
surrounding areas) that has a good track record with this type of
procedure?

Thanks!

Brenda

If the Tikosyn works to keep your mom out of atrial fibrillation,
there would no longer be a need for ablation, which is indeed riskier
in someone with a prosthetic heart valve even when the
electrophysiologist is experienced.  FWIW, an electrophysiologist is
not a surgeon.

May GOD bless you and your mom.

Prayerfully in Jesus' ever-lasting love,
