I have intermittent afib and have been on Coumadin for years.
The result of my PT/INR check of today came out as:
-PT activity 26%
-INR 2.49 (my target range is 2 - 3).
Looks fine, but I'm a bit puzzled with the low PT%: matter of fact,
values such as low as 26% show in my history file as associated with
INR values around 3.
The lab double checked and confirmed PT activity 26% and INR 2.49.
Any comment?

I am wondering if you are mistaking the result. Unit of measurement in
PT is "seconds" (It is the number of seconds it takes for the blood to
clot under certain laboratory conditions) and not %. So, I would
guess, 26 represents "seconds" and not percentage of normal. The INR
value is more important than the PT value since it is a ratio arrived
by comparing it to the concentration of ingredients in the reagent
used for analysis. Since the lab reagent varies in its concentration
from batch to batch, INR is calculated each time when this test is
run. So, forget about the PT value, and concentrate on INR value. Hope
this helps.

I do not think so: matter of fact, the lab explains 26% as being the
"percentage of prothrombinic activity".
I do not yet know their evaluation of the so called "Prothrombin time"
(in seconds).
