As from my other posts its very apparent to me I need
to start serious exercise program

I'm curious what others are doing?

Do you exercise indoors on machine such as recumbent
exercise bikes, treadmills, rowing machines?

Or do you prefer to always exercise outside?

I live in north Missouri where weather can be a HUGE
factor in whether or not its possible to exercise
outside.

Many times It just not possible so therefore am
considering some kind of indoor exercise equipment
investment

I park my car far from my objective.  Use steps and carry things about
not asking for help.  Clean my house and weed and till my garden.
Sometimes I stand still for 1/2 and hour this after 1/2 hour of Tai Chi
and sword play.

The latter takes years  to understand still I know what CABG is.

NO machines nothing to buy just move be it dance or whatever. Something
that you are attracted too.

Dance by the way can be social and therefore incentive to carry on.

My son Erik is a physical trainer who eschews  weights and stuff in
favor of  simple body work.

agree with all you say and in fact PREFER such ways to
get exercise

but again weather in north Missouri can preclude such
methods

A jump rope could provide a very intense workout indoors.  You could
also run in place indoors.  Use a small stepper, or step on a chair etc.
and avoid any equipment purchase.  I would start VERY slowly if I was
starting from being totally sedentary.

I have always walked & take the stairs (even if my car is parked on the
highest level of the parking garage - level 6 which it often is etc.).

I go to a gym and sometimes walk.

At the gym I mainly use a treadmill + elliptical machine and rower.  I
do some weight training.

I like the treadmill and elliptical because they are time efficient - by
adjusting the grade you can make the workout quite intense on the
treadmill and by adjusting resistance likewise on the elliptical.  On a
bike since it is not weight bearing it is hard to burn as many calories
so you need to increase the time.

In general the feeling is you need to burn about 1200 calories a week to
prevent heart disease, 1500 calories to hold it in place and >2100 for
any hopes of regression.  Greater benefits are seen with levels upto
about 4500-5000 calories a week.

I would join a gym and see what equipment you like before spending money
on any equipment.  A lot of exercise equipment has big footprints so you
have to be able to fit it in.  Good quality (say gym quality) equipment
is also very expensive.

Seems way to linear and easy to me.  Any citations in time? I think of
fasting  for some reason.
But you did say feeling which does not drive me crazy but the topic
requires perhaps more.

This is based on the Heidelberg Regression study done by Hambrecht and
co-workers (he is a big gun in exercise and CVD). The abstract of the
original study can be found here:

Some of the material on rational approach to exercise therapy is covered
in these reviews:

I've found the bottom two sites  useful if you want to find an exercise
program  but I seem to go for things of interest not calories  expended.

The first with the big gun is a study with 80 people.  Jim???   No
wonder I never heard of it or him.  Still I feel it makes sense to move
and the more the better.  How we move then becomes of import.  With
grace or with violence.  One may go for along time and another end with
a blown out knee. Decisions based on our cultural norms or just getting
ready combat a constant decision biased by heart disorder here.

While looking about for Hambrecht and Exercise I found this study.

Associations between estimated aerobic fitness and cardiovascular risk
factors in adults with different levels of abdominal obesity.

National Public Health Institute, Department of Epidemiology and Health
Promotion, Helsinki, Finland. katja.borodulin@ktl.fi
BACKGROUND: We investigated the association between estimated aerobic
fitness and cardiovascular risk factors, and how the association is
affected by abdominal obesity. DESIGN: Cross-sectional population study.
METHODS: Participants comprised 3820 adults aged 25 to 64 years from the
FINRISK 2002 Study in Finland. Aerobic fitness was estimated using a
non-exercise test. Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), blood pressure, total
cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),
triglycerides, HDL-C to total cholesterol ratio, and gamma-glutamyl
transferase (GGT) levels were measured by standardized methods. RESULTS:
After controlling for age, smoking and alcohol consumption, aerobic
fitness was inversely associated with systolic (P=0.027) and diastolic
(P<0.001) blood pressure, total cholesterol (P=0.009), triglycerides
(P=0.001), and GGT (P<0.001), and directly associated with HDL-C
(P<0.001) and HDL-C to total cholesterol ratio (P<0.001) in men. In
women, inverse associations were found for diastolic blood pressure
(P=0.027) and triglycerides (P<0.001), and direct association for HDL-C
(P<0.001) and HDL-C to total cholesterol ratio (P<0.001). Waist-to-hip
ratio was independently associated with a better risk factor profile in
both sexes. Interactions were found between fitness and WHR in relation
to total cholesterol (P=0.001), HDL-C to total cholesterol ratio
(P=0.005), triglycerides (P=0.001), and systolic (P=0.009) and diastolic
(P<0.001) blood pressure among men only. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest
that good estimated aerobic fitness is associated with a better
cardiovascular risk factor profile, regardless of the level of abdominal
obesity in Finnish men and women. Men in the highest WHR third seem to
have more benefit of aerobic fitness on their cardiovascular risk levels
than men with lower WHR.

I prefer it when weather permits.
But, since I spend 30-60 min a day watching tv news anyway, I spend
that time on a treadmill (two birds, one stone sorta thing). I don't
limit my excecise to that though. That'd be a minimum.
