First Design for Pandemic Ventilator Posted

I have the first design for the Pandemic Ventilator up on my blog at
Pandemic Ventilator Project
www.panvent.blogspot.com

This is a design for a ventilator you can build yourself from readily
available parts such a pipe, tubing electrically operated valves, a
Programable Logic Controller (PLC) and a regular computer (PC) if a
pandemic arrives. The software to drive the equipment and operate all
of the alarm systems will be available as free and open source. Please
click on the Digg icon and send this URL to your friends if you think
that this is a worthwhile project and that I should keep working on it.

"An influenza pandemic is inevitable." -- Director of the U.S. Centers
for Disease Control

"It is not a question of if but a question of when." -- Dr. Leslie
Dauphin, Virologist, Author of The Germ Handbook.

"YOYO means You are On Your Own." -- Keynote speaker for a pandemic
preparedness conference.

100% of folks with ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) from
avian influenza virus infection have died despite the best medical
care using the best medical equipment when oseltamivir was not started
in time (within 48 hours of onset of symptoms).

May GOD bless you in HIS mighty way.

Prayerfully in Jesus' ever-lasting love,

Andrew <><

(Not 100% -- http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol11no02/04-1061.htm)

Due to an appalling lack of accursed-world-ending events --
no globlal earthquake, no Purim One-Days War, no global atmospheric
conflagration, Tehran annoyingly remaining a city instead
of a glowing crater -- and even the insolent refusal of those told
"You do not have much longer to live" to cease posting, let
alone cease breathing -- Doctor Chung has been forced to find
an alternate fuel source for his patented Doctor Death Doom-o-Matic,
Generator -- as you may behold here, in  wonder and amazement.

>From your citation:

All 12 patients had abnormal chest radiographs a median of 7 days
after onset of fever (range 3-17 days). Two patients had interstitial
infiltration, and 10 had patchy lobar infiltrates in a variety of
patterns (single lobe, multiple lobes, unilateral or bilateral
distributions). The radiographic pattern progressed to diffuse
bilateral ground-glass appearance, with clinical features compatible
with ARDS, in all 8 patients who died and in 1 patient who survived
(Figure 3). A pneumothorax developed in l patient during mechanical
ventilation. The median time from onset to ARDS development was 6 days
(range 4-13).

Treatment for all patients included broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs
aiming to cover most of the usual and unusual respiratory pathogens.
Eight patients were treated with corticosteroid drugs, including 2
patients who survived and 6 patients who died. Seven patients were
treated with the neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir at various stages
of illness. Treatment tended to have been started earlier in those who
survived (a median of 4.5 days from onset compared with 9 days for
those who died), and both survivors who were treated received the
complete 5-day course of drug, whereas 2 of 5 patients who died
received the complete 5-day course (Figure 4).

** END CITATION**

Of the 9 patients that developed ARDS, only 1 survived.

The distinguishing features of the one survivor is early and complete
5 day course of oseltamivir.

Many thanks, much praise, and all the glory to GOD for HIS compelling
you to provide this citation.

May GOD bless you.

Prayerfully in Jesus' ever-lasting love,

Andrew <><

Though you remain convicted by the Holy Spirit, that would hardly make
you a pesky backlog:

You remain in my prayers, dear neighbor Cary whom I love
unconditionally.

HAH!  You think a little touch of INFLUENZA is scary?

Should be no problem to put down everything, to ignore the
panic, the dead and dying now piling up in your front yard, driveway,
under the shrubbery, etc., to head down into the basement
to cobble such a device together.  And certainly, Radio Shack
will be having an influenza pandemic sale on PLCs.

Bird flu is so 1990s, Chung.  Can't you come up with
something scarier, like cosmic rays reanimating
the dead from cemeteries everywhere?

I recently posted some pictures of the bellows unit I constructed for
the ventilator.  You can see it at my blog at: http://panvent.blogspot.com.

I have built the first ventilator prototype and have test run it with
the control software.  I still have to add the pressure sensor and
alarm systems. There is much to do yet.  You can see pictures of it
and a video of it actually running at my blog at:

Wiser to have oseltamivir on hand at the ready.

We believe that it is possible that human-to-human transmission has
occurred for an Indonesian doctor that has become stricken after
caring for Bird Flu infected patients.

Thankfully, he has not needed a ventilator because of taking
oseltamivir early:

May GOD bless you.
