At the grocery store, I noticed a pancake mix called Frontier Flapjack
& Waffle Mix. The front of the carton says "Baker Mills", "Kodiak
Cakes","100% Whole Grains", "Whole Wheat, Oat & Honey", "Add Water
Only", "No Added Fat, No Cholesterol, No Added Sugar".

The ingredients are: 100% whole grain wheat flour, 100% whole grain oat

flour, non-fat dry milk, dry honey (honey, wheat starch), leavening
(sodium bicarbonate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate),

egg whites and salt. (It bothers me that it says "100% whole grain
wheat flour" instead of "100% whole wheat flour".)

Serving size is 1/3 cup and the nutrition chart says, per serving:
Calories: 130; Calories from Fat: 10
Total Fat: 1g; % Daily Value: 2%
  Saturated Fat: 0g; % Daily Value: 0%
Trans Fat: % Daily Value: 0%
Cholesterol: 0mg; % Daily Value: 0%
Sodium: 216mg; % Daily Value: 9%
Total Carbohydrate 27g; % Daily Value: 9%
   Dietary Fiber: 4g; % Daily Value: 15%
   Sugars: 2g
Protein: 7g

It concerns me that under Trans Fat, above, it does not list a % grams,

just the % Daily Value. Is this the gimmick the FDA permits in
advertisements, i.e., if the product has less than X% trans fat, they
don't have to list it? Is this just another junk flour junk food? They
have a web site if you're interested: http://www.kodiakcakes.com

Any comments? Thanks.

Whole grain is better than whole wheat flour - you want the entire grain.

Given the ingredient list, you will find no trans fats or at most,
extremely little and that present will be naturally occurring. Yes there
is a lower threshold that does not need to be reported - I don't recall
the fraction of a percent that it must be above.

The product looks like it should be pretty healthy.

What do you want it to say? 0.1% DV for trans fat?

There is a cut-off below which they can say 0%, probably 0.5%. That means
that a serving has 1/200th of the DV of trans fat. Values that low are
irrelevant.

BTW, the food is not healthy. It's dead. To be healthy, you have to be
alive. It is, however, healthful.

I guess that's why I didn't see "Jeff's" post: he's already in my bozo
filter.
