Avoid saturated fats at all costs?

I'm a man age 48 abt 5' 11" and 210 lbs.  I'm abt 30
lbs over weight.

I was taking 20 mgs of Lipitor daily first thing in the
morning with very good success at controlling lipids.

I'm now "trying" 40 mg of simvastatin in the evening
per my docs blessings. Trying to save some money

I've diced that I really would like to get of stains
period and my doc tells me that I probably could if I
would lose 30 lbs

So....I've decided its time to get serious abt this.

My question is abt saturated fats.  I read many labels
when I grocery shop and see saturated fats in a LOT of
foods I like.  I see it in dark chocolate bars,
cheeses,  you name it.

Should I avoid ANY saturated fats at all costs?

Is it possible to not get "enough" saturated fats if
you cut them down VERY low?

I realize the government says we can have some
saturated fats but I'm asking abt the value of going to
extremes of avoiding it and the benefit (if any) of
doing so.

You did not become overweight by eating saturated fats but from
overeating.

To lose 30 lbs or more permanently, you will have to eat less
permanently:

May GOD continue to help us with our needs, dear neighbor whom I love
unconditionally.

As for knowing who are the very elect, these you will know by the
unconditional love they have for everyone including their enemies
(Matthew 5:44-45, 1 Corinthians 13:3, James 2:14-17).

Yes I understand that it all boils down to consuming
less calories... regardless of the form they are in.

Are you telling me that its the calories and ONLY the
calories I should be concerned abt though.

No real benefit in avoiding saturated fats to the
extreme?  Of course I realize that avoiding fats also
reduces calories.

No.  Its the weight and only the weight of the food you should be
concerned about for losing weight permanently:

"No.  Its the weight and only the weight of the food you should be
concerned about for losing weight permanently:"

This seriously flawed opinion reflects a poor grasp of the scientific
literature, a willfull distortion of information in service of an
non-science agenda, reason for great caution in accepting other opinions
from the source generally, all the more reason to ignore the source
because the truth is not in it.

This is just the same old same old two pound diet propaganda which lies
in tatters scientifically, shredded these many times on this newsgroup
and exists now only on vain hand waving and foot stomping rhetoric
alone; otherwise known as "hot air".
