Pantethine and statins - similar side effects?

I vaguely remember reading something here suggesting that
pantethine effect the body in ways that are similar to the
statins.

I stopped taking Crestor about a year ago because I suffer
from fibromyalgia and it seemed that my tendons and general
level of muscle aches were worse.

I was then off all cholesterol related meds until I started
taking Pantethine about 2 months ago.

I am again having a flair up of fibromyalgia and I don't
know whether it is related to the pantethine or simply to
the very real fact that fibromyalgia gets better and worse
in response to many different stressors and has nothing to
do with the pantethine.  I would like to avoid going off the
pantethine if it is not likely to be the cause.

Does anyone know much about the possibilities of pantethine
causing muscular/tendon kinds of difficulties - or
exacerbating them?

TIA

Only in the lipid lowering effects.

Louise, in the studies I cited, pantethine was uniformly without side
effects even in hepatitis and dialysis patients.  But that doesn't mean
you can't be the first person to report an adverse reaction; if it gives
you one, your risk of side effect is 100% no matter what studies say.

I have had a similarly waxing and waning illness for many years, and
tried many things for it.  In order to figure out how a drug or
supplement effects me, if I notice something bad, I stop it for a day or
a week or more til the feelings go away.  Then I restart it and pay
attention to whether the ill effect comes back, and how soon.  I stop
and start a few times, if necessary, to make the connection clear.

I hope it's not making you worse.

Susan,
Excellent post. I agree that Louise should STOP taking pantethine due to
the side effects.
There are other alternatives to statins. Anyone that takes statins or
wants to learn about alternatives to statins should read this book:

WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT STATIN DRUGS AND THEIR NATURAL ALTERNATIVES
by Jay S. Cohen, M.D.

That's not what I said.

It's not certain if pantethine is causing her problem yet.

It took me with increasing dosages of liptor about three years to
notice something was amiss. One year later  after stopping meds no
further loss but no rapid comeback.  I think muscle loss is easy and
repair requires  hard work.

Calfs went from 18 inches to 14 inches.

My heart being a muscle ... this disturbs me of possible implications.

My joints still hurt especially hands.

Pantethine for two months no comment but I take it.  Silly me.

Sorry  Louise no easy answer!

I don't know if you're "silly"

Please post back every so often and let us know if you're
getting similar symptoms

Thanks.
