I am a female aged 51. I was a Blue Baby. At the age of 28 I developed Sick Sinus Syndrome, Sinus Node Dysfunction, Brady-Tacardia. I also have a Mitral Value Proplase, and aberrant circulation, and a mummer. Currently I have 2 dual chamber pacers ( one is turned off ). These are number 5 and 6. Two sets of wires have broken. My teams dilemma is that I have 5 wires on my right side and the two on the left had to be threaded from the right ventricle through a valve and into the left atrium. No more use available on the left side. So....our options are to remove the wires on the right side or crack my chest and place the lead wires outside my heart muscle. I'd simply greatly appreciate any input regarding these two procedures. Removing pacemaker wires vary in difficulty and will depend on the skill and experience of your electrophysiologist. Cracking open your chest to place epicardial pacemaker leads only will likely be the last resort for your team of physicians though a cardiothoracic surgeon would likely see it as no big deal. Dr. Charles Byrd who is a cardiovascular surgeon and a pioneer in the removal of pacer leads has agreed to take me as a patient when the time comes; otherwise there is a local cardiologist who has agreed to place epidicardial leads if the situation prevents me from traveling to Fort Lauderdale. Once again, Thank You for your time and consideration. The situation is a little nerve racking though I have to admit.
