Hi

I wanted to know how much is the PET Scan of Coronary Vessels reliable
when compared to the Traditional Angiography.

Bye

The PET scan has greater sensitivity and specificity than the lower
energy thallium scan.

Comparing it to invasive angiography would be like comparing an orange
with an apple.

is angiography daNgerous?  s a PET scan dangerous?    How are the results of
different from one another?

There are more risks involved as is the case with any invasive
procedure.

> s a PET scan dangerous?

It is a less invasive procedure.

PET gives function perfusion image information while angiography gives
anatomical luminal continuity information with limited functional flow
information.

Would you translate your reponse into language a non medically trained
person can understand?

PET is to angiography as a compass is to a roadmap.

PET gives an idea of blood flow and the metabolic state of the heart
muscle (i.e. how well it is being fed or perfused and its functional
state).  Angiography visualizes the blood vessels feeding the heart and
hence can detect a narrowing

PET measures the result or endpoint. It is like if you were a manager at
a restaurant - if you saw all tables occupied and plates and glasses
filled you would conclude the waiter & kitchen was doing its job.  On
the other hand if some tables had no food or drinks an analysis that
tried to find what the bottleneck in the kitchen to the table would be
like angiography.

HI
Can you tell me how much sensitive is PET Scan for the luminal
narrowing.Does PET Scan take cross-sections of the coronary vessels. Can
radiologists /cardiologists interpret those cross-sections and conclude
the percentage of vessel block

It does not measure luminal narrowing.

No.

No.

What is luminal narrowing?

Luminal narrowing is to an artery as a hair clog is to a sink drain
pipe.
