I have tried deep breathing excercises for high BP...and it worked! I
lowered my BP from 127/80, to 117/78, in just five minutes of deep breathing
excercises. I had decided to do these every hour on the hour, then began to
wonder...
As deep breathing exercises are an act of forcing your body to breathe
UNNATURALLY, could this actually contribute to SLEEP APNEA, which of course
encourages ischemia?
Your thoughts, experts?

Slowed breathing has been shown to reduce blood pressure.

It shouldn't.

You've got it.

About 20 years ago I studied deep breathing as practiced by beginners
in Qi Gong (aka Chi Kung) and Kung Fu, with Dr Zheng Rong-Tong MD
from the Shanghai institute of traditional medecines, who was doing
a study of Qi Gong breathing at Stanford Med. School. Her study
is probably now published, showed clearly the same effect you observed.
There is one difference from the way you look at deep beathing and the
Qi Gong way. People practice Qi Gong absolutely *effortlessly*. It
is a form of tranquil meditation where you concentrate on the evenness
of the breath passing from your lower abdomen through your nostrils,
approximately 1 minute per breath cycle. The benefits go beyond
BP reduction, since Qi Gong regenerates the Qi life energy of the
body. The same life energy which makes it possible for a Kung Fu
master to split a log with a well aimed blow of the hand.

For a Born-Again Christian, Qi is the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is infinitely more than our personal life force energy
because it is the Source of all life forces.
Still praying for you, dear liaM whom I love in the holy name of GOD's
one and only precious Son, Jesus, Who died on the cross to save us from
all of our sins.
