There have been well controlled scientific studies that have shown that prayer has an effect beyond that which is explainable by chance (indeed, it is written that there is no such thing as chance) on the lives of others even when these others are not aware that folks have been praying for them.
On this note, you will remain in my prayers, dear Mark whom I love in Jesus' most precious and holy name.

Richard Dawkins - 15 Apr 2006 19:48 GMT You militant atheists pretty much all work from the same script. Although viewing yourselves as "free thinkers", you all have a Party Line you follow rather closely. It isn't difficult to anticipate your arguments on any given point. Most intelligent religious individuals almost always can correctly predict what you'll say next.Interestingly, militant atheists get much of their beliefs about "Christianity" from liberal Christians. They'll pejoratively label all Christians as "Fundies", then presumptively attack liberal theological concepts they suppose us "Fundies" subscribe to ! Nearly all militant atheists are followers of the religion of Scientism. Their priests wear white lab coats. Their sacramental objects are the microscope, the telescope, and the test tube. Blasphemy is to deny the ultimate authority of science. But the militant atheists -the ones who have devoted their lives to refuting Christianity- are almost like the demons ...who believe more firmly in God's existence than do Christians ! It can unequivocally be stated that militant atheists are some of the people who most solidly believe in God ! Ain't talking 'practical atheists' here ...those who don't even think much about atheism. They're the true atheists. Professional atheists who've dedicated themselves to eradicating the Lord do so because they hate Him. They're the God-haters. To which they'll invariably reply: 'How can we hate something we don't believe in ?'. Exactly ! It's their belief in God which drives them to relentlessly attack Him. Run of the mill, everyday 'practical atheists' don't give God a second thought. They're the ones I worry about. Whereas militant atheists are fighting against the innate knowledge of suppressed in their hearts. As a militant atheist I can unequivocally state that there is no time in your life that you totally disbelieved in God. And -in fact- were driven to work against the Lord by belief in Him ! It isn't that militant atheists don't believe God exists. Instead: That they don't want God to exist.
Bill - 15 Apr 2006 20:39 GMT You opinion and rant on atheists is just like your religious beliefs. It is pure opinion TOTALLY unsupported by any objective verifiable facts.
People are atheists because there is no objective verifiable evidence that ANY gods exist. Religion is nothing more than myths, fables and implausible stories.
Get a life Richard.

'Work from the *same* 'script'? Hardly. But then again, '*Prove* there's a 'God' with some irrefutable proof' *does* get a bit repetitious, doesn't it? Almost as repetitious as, 'Prove there *isn't* a God'. Pretty silly statement to make when the respondent is the one claiming that 'HE' *does* exist. Pretty backwards thinking, don't you think?

We, as atheists, are constantly told by theists what we are and what we believe. 99% of the time, these claims are full of sh.t. We don't hate god - we don't believe in gods. We don't hate theists - we hate theists who try force their faith on others.

well, actually it kinda of came together over the last few days... kinda an odd thought now and then, adding up, in the spare computational time of the back of my mind ;-)
I just realized: it's not FACTs that worry Atheists.....!! Hell and high water, they can dispute facts, distort them, deny them or misinterpret them... assemble mounds of contradictory data to refute them... No, facts don't scare the Atheist.
What frightens the Atheist into sleepless nights is that Slippery Slope!
OH! NOoo!!!! Not One Iota of the Camel's Nose under My Tent!!
NO! Once they admit there is One Shred of Rational, undeniable evidence that God MAY Exist, May Have Created the Substance of the Universe, or that Life did NOT Magically leap from lifelessness of its own volition... Then they are on that "Slippery Slope" to accepting the Genesis Account of Creation!

Well, proposing, that there is a magic genii, a 'god' that made all this, is not the same as actually 'proving' that this magic genii/god exists or ever existed. And, if, as I believe you do, you mean the 'god' of the Hebrew/Christian faiths, I feel it is absurd for anyone to believe that that irrational bastard really exists.

also, note how many times Andy changes his nick to avoid kill files....... and even at that he will be the 'top poster' to sci.med.cardiology for example
now tell me........... who's actions are LESS Christian than those whom are dragged into this foray?

They are militant anti-theists and there is a huge difference. Although viewing themselves as "free thinkers", they all have a Party Line they follow rather closely. So when debating don't ever buy into their *how can we believe in a sky pixie* claim because they most certainly do though they will never admit it. They have a fire and hatred in their hearts for God and that is what brings them into religious newsgroups on a regular basis. They want to destroy your faith like they have destroyed their own.

Oh dear... I have a science degree, mate. Part of my work involves calculations in Quantum Electrodynamics, amongst other things. I know just a little bit about neutrinos.
It was a play on the way that Christians twist the word "witness" to mean "see non-existent phenomena for which there is zero evidence". One is much more likely to witness a neutrino, (and where did I say that it had to be with one's eyes?), than witness any form of supernatural aspect of wishful thinking.
Neutrinos are very real, and detectable. (Even in priciple with the human body)
You imaginary Sky-pixies are neither.
>But this is all off the subject... if you reject God it is >because you want to, not that there is insufficient evidence of >His presence. Your question does not make sense, as it starts with a basic assumption that is just plain wrong. I cannot reject that which does not exist.
There is NO evidence that any gods exist. Zero, zip, Nada, none, nothing.
In any case, to reject the "concept", I would have to understand exactly what the concept is first.
Are you able to explain (exactly) what the words "God", and "His" mean, without getting into a logical knot?

To put this in simple terms: God Created the entire universe in a word, in a moment of time--all The Substance of All the universe at the same moment of time. That act of Creation was just about +/- 7,000 years ago; therefore any light which has traveled longer than 7000 years to reach your eye is light God Created, not light that was 'generated' by the furnace of a heated ball of self-existent gas.
The complexity and vast wonder of the universe is nothing beside the Awesome Wonder of the God Who Created it....
Sad that there are tiny insignificant beings who deny the Creator and worship the creation and .... I wonder how someone could be an astronomer, amateur or otherwise, and not comprehend that there is a vast disparity between the creation and the creator.

Doesn't work that way, Skippy. There's no such thing as evidence that something *doesn't* exist. Nonexistence is inferred from the *lack* of evidence that the thing in question *does* exist.
Now, how about you either come up with some evidence that your god-thingy exists or shut the f.ck up?

Now, you dumb a.s, you've managed to hammer at your own swollen face, Fight Club style, until you've backed yourself into a dark little corner. Do you stand by your opinion that calling your opponent is a substandard method of flaming utilised by those with little or no creativity, thus damning your own turgid offerings in the process and labelling yourself a tard with no ideas? Or do you rapidly U-turn your tottering polio-warped pins and decide that 'faglaming' is in fact a valid and creative method of flaming, thus avoiding harsh criticism of your own tactics... but with the negative side-effects of identifying yourself as a drool-chinned dimwit who can't even decide what he does and doesn't like, and lacking the courage to stand by his own convictions?

Susie - 17 Apr 2006 18:06 GMT The muslims are a fungus in life. They murder, lie, steal, fornicate, practice homosexuality, take and sell illegal drugs and practice a form of satan worship called islam, they must be eradicated and wiped of the face of the earth just as they preach they want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth Yahweh the God of Israel will wipe them of the face of the earth and all those who advocate the destruction and murder of God's chosen people the Jews or any other innocent man or women that wants to live in peace. The muslims must be killed in mass and as many as possible at one time. They are useless and dangerous varmints that need to be exterminated. When a Jew or anyone protecting Eretz Israel or the USA kills a muslim he or she performs a great Mitzvah in that he or she is protecting the Torah from defilement by unclean heathens. Muslims are unclean and smell like a sewer and attract flies. Muslim women piss all over themselves and then pour orange juice on their pissed upon garments to cover the smell because they are too lazy to wash them. Muslim women are to fat and ugly to be whores but rather they are likened to dogs by the Angels because muslim women lick the syphilis riddled small penises of muslim men with inferiority complexes. Muslims are not normal and they need to be lined up and gunned down in mass.
Or
Take all their weapons away and teach and force them to be human beings or execute them in mass as the demons they are. Muslims are children of satan, they are the creation of the devil the are wicked and evil and will die. There is no salvation for muslims.

What I'm enjoying is how stupidly easy it is to point out your lies and hate. I love the fact that you're actually embarassing yourself and your fellow christians. I mean it's the oldest trick in the book, they even use it in the movies, you want someone to do something, you want to piss someone off, you want to prove that they aren't as emotionless and cold as they try to play themselves off to be, you go after something they want or care about.
