I am anorexic, though I am in recovery.  I still refuse to be a normal weight.
i just  can't.  I was told that I have significant nerve dammage to my
stomach, and I was prescribed domperidone.  I won't take it, because in some
messed up way I like being sick.  I have a wonderful excuse not to eat.  I am
afraid that this nerve condition will worsen, if I don't eat properly and
take the meds, but I am so afraid.  Could someone please tell me how bad it
can get.

You could die an unpleasant death. At some point there may be some damage to
your organs that can not be reversed. I suspect you know that there are
treatment centers for anorexia. Best to get to one of those. What's wrong with
you is that you have anorexia.

If you think mirrors make you look fat, stay away from those. Build some
friendships. Have more self confidence. The likely reason you want to stay
sick is because you are anorexic. You need to take your meds. They will help
keep you alive.

Maybe you could start by just eating a little bit more of one thing for one
day. That's all. See how that works out. For example, ice cream. Pick any
flavor or multiple flavors. Just eat somewhat more - how much is up to you -
for exactly one day. At the end of the day balance in your mind whether it
was, on the whole, a good thing for you or a bad thing for you.

Good luck!

Bill

P.S. The way to get those nerves to come back is to eat. The way to get them
to continue to shut down is to not eat. That's what probably caused the
problem in the first place.

Thank-you for responding.  I needed to hear the hard truth from a stranger.
It's strange, but true.  I am trying really hard and I am taking my meds.
But, I don't know if I will ever be able to eat normally.  I'll keep on
fighting.   Again, thank-you for your candid response.

Hello,
Hang in there. I will pray for you. You should visit a health food store
and ask the person at the vitamin counter to sell you a container of
multiple vitamins and another container of multiple minerals. I prefer the
capsules since the pills upset my stomach. There is also a product that
they sell in regular drug stores and grocery stores called Ensure
(spelling??). It comes in various flavors such as chocholate. I suggest
that you drink a can of Ensure about three times a day since it has lots
of vitamins. I suggested in a previous post that you join a support
group--did you take my advice?

There are two types of fighters. Those that try and win, and those that try
and lose. To quote Yoda "Do not try. Do."

The best thing for you to do is to join a support group for people that
have anorexia. Anorexia is a serious disorder that could lead to death.
You need to be under the care of a psychologist that specializes in
anorexia--perhaps the leader of the anorexia support group.
