I had a CABG 5x a little over 3 years ago. Recently, I strained my chest at
work and had to be placed on restrictions.
My question is "what is the *official* diagnosis called for straining a
post-CABG sternum?"
Thanks.

believe me after 5 years your sternum should be stronger than before...the
wires are still in!!!
me thinks your job is being cautious to protect themselves...but I wouldn't
worry too much...nearly impossible to split that sternum now..
good luck

The same as straining a normal sternum:
costochondritis
