This was posted on another board- Dr. Chung or anyone else have any
suggestions to help this boy out?
Hello Im a 14 year old male and just recently I have been having a problem
with bp and heart rate. Starting on Thursday the 12th when ever i stand up
my blood pressure goes to roughly 215/140 and my pulse goes to 155. Also
when i stand up I "faint" and I'm out for about 20 to 30 seconds and awake
with an horrible headache. I've had tons of tests and they ruled out seizure
activity, kidney problems,my thyroid is fine, they've done an EKG and that
came back normal as well as an Echo cardiogram, and a Tilt table
test.....all of those things came back normal so im sort of at the end of a
road here....i could really use someones help because Im a 14 year old kid
stuck in a wheel chair and afraid to ever stand up....thank you so much ...
He later wrote:
one of my cardiologists prescribed a beta-blocker to lower my overall blood
pressure and pulse and it is working magnificent.....when im sitting or
laying, my bp is around 90/70 and my resting pulse is about 60 so im afraid
to up the dosage any because im afraid my pulse will dip way to low causing
major problems. This medication seems to have no effect on me while I am
standing and this really confuses me..

From my non-professional research, I advised the boy that I thought he had
ortostatic hypertension, which was discussed in this article:

He's in the hospital and they checked his adrenal glands which were
apparently fine. Any advice I can relay to this boy or does anyone know an
expert in this area? Seems like a highly unusual case and the boy is getting
desperate.

By definition, the following would be a case of orthostatic
hypertension.

Be patient. Pray to the LORD for His peace which passes all
understanding.

It is a rare condition. However, it sounds like his doctors are on top
of things (with the LORD's help :-)
