Back from the Doctor today and he prescribed Atenolol, a beta blcoker.

Now that I do a little research I find it has an increased chance of
stroke. Im going to ask him to change the drug.

I used hyzaar before but tried to wean myself off it but my systolic
blood pressure still a  little high ( 155+-).

What is the best blood pressure medicine if you have to take it?

It depends - particulary on what else is going on with you.
