In healthy volunteers, the equivalent of two cups of coffee reduced the
body's ability to boost blood flow to the heart muscle in response to
exercise, and the effect was stronger when the participants were in a
chamber simulating high altitude, according to a new study in the Jan.
17, 2006, issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Caffeine is a drug used to treat apnea in infants. Levels must be monitored.

While on the topic of coffee & studies, we were wondering if Starbucks had
any hand in funding this one ;-)

Ever since I gave up coffee and sugar I noticed that I don't breath as
heavy and my heart rate is about 5 beats lower during an intense time
trial workout on my bike.
besides that I'm much more level headed and think much clearer then
when I'm on caffeine.

My head's been clearer and my heart less wired since I gave up sugar and
starch.
I'll give up coffee when I'm dead.

I know how you feel but try cutting back slowly, there's no reason to
go cold turkey like I did.

Are you replying to me? You must learn to quote so folks will know what
you're posting about.
I don't want to cut back any further, nor do I think any harmful effects
are proven, just suggested.
Coffee is also rich in health protective antioxidants.

Although coffee is rich in antioxidants it raises homocysteine, CRP and the
risk of acute cardiac events. Probably coffee has a negative effect if the
dose is higher than two cups a day.

My homocysteine was low even when my lipids and bg were bad, and my crp
has fallen a great deal in the past year.
I'm not taking a chance of getting creamed by a truck tomorrow without
having had a cuppa joe.
