I recently had a liver function and cholesterol test to monitor the
amiodarone which apparently can cause damage to the liver. the cholesterol
test was fine but the liver function test showed some damage apparently
caused buy the lipitor, the GP was not concerned about this but I have read
elsewhere (Duane Gravelin MD MPH) that Statins can be responsible for a
dementia like condition and that lipids are an essential part of the brain
cell and other bodily function What do the \n\g think thank you .. cas.

There is some evidence that statins can cause some memory loss in some people
,but I don't think there is enough to be conclusive. You should probably
consider taking something called co-enzyme Q10 which is an over the counter
supplement since Lipitor depletes this. Cholesterol is necessary for brain
function - but is not like your brain stops working when you are on Lipitor.
I would be much more worried about your liver. It has been shown that Lipitor
can cause Liver problems in some people.

Go to p.11 where they talk about liver problems. Pretty much what it says is
that if you have this the usual course of action is to reduce the dose of or
eliminate the Lipitor.
So I do not understand why your GP is not reacting, I would suggest that you
tell him you want to understand this a little better and get some exact
numbers on what is going bad so some here might be able to interpret it for
you.

I don't think it's a good idea to ignore this. Some who had similar
test results and were advised to ignore it now deal with a permanent
problem.
If you have any muscle pain, aching or weakness, including joint pain,
or gastrointestinal symptoms (often the first side effects from
statins) tell your doctor about that too.
Bill has given you good advice. Talk to your doctor about your concerns
(which you obviously have or you wouldn't have posted). If you are not
happy with what you hear get a second opinion or a new doctor.

It seems to me I heard somewhere that cas wrote in article

There is some anecdotal evidence that milk thistle extract lowers some
elevated liver function readings caused by medications other than
statins; you may want to look into this.
For the record I generally avoid supplements and non-approved
medications, so I am in no way recommending it or suggesting you try it
without satisfying yourself of potential benefits and risks.
