My wife (age 29) was just diagnosed with CHF. I am extremely concerned
because for the past 4 months she has been misdiagnosed with Asthma and
been treated with your typical stimulant based inhalors taken 2x per
day. Does anyone know if there is any information available on what
effect this may have on the prognosis for the CHF?

Bronchodilator treatment for asthma typically does not alter the natural
course of CHF. Your wife's prognosis will depend on her left
ventricular systolic function once she is on an optimal medical regimen.

I took asthma meds for ten years before being told that I had heart
disease. mainly I took the 'preventer' i.e. the steroid inhaler, and
it was only a small dose. I rarely needed the salbutamol which really
pointed to the fact that I didn't have asthma. However, I do not
believe these meds caused any problem whatsoever. In fact, I seem to
remember reading somewhere some time ago that small dose
beclomethasone (the preventer) was probably good for the lungs.
