Fluctuation in Thermometer Readings

Can somebody please explain...
I use a digital oral thermometer.. First temp 98.0 second temp 3 minutes
later 98.4, third temp 3 minutes later 98.6

Could be the probe warming up. I've noticed on my digital thermometer it rises
exponentially - quickly at first then longer intervals between .1 degree
rises.

I would guess you have a faulty digital thermometer.
