Andrew B. Chung, MD/PhD - 17 Feb 2005 16:27 GMT > I started taking 50mg altenolol and 20 mg benicar at Night.. > Is there anyway that these could be causing my body to feel cold. It is possible. The atenolol is more likely than the Benicar for causing the side effect you are describing.
> Pulse rate > around 53. Your heart rate is a bit too slow (probably because of being on too much atenolol).
Would suggest you ask your doctor about either decreasing the atenolol or switching you to something else.

Belief in God does not impede one's skill, it can only enhance it as instead of the man believing he's God, he certainly knows he is not. All glory can be given to God all troubles can too, and the mere man can got on with his work unhindered. This applies to cooks as well as surgeons.

Bob (this one) - 18 Feb 2005 04:34 GMT > If we attack a man's professional integrity because of his faith it > would say volumes about our own depth of unresolved sin. How about when we attack him for his deceits, his meanspiritedness, his insolent spirit, his smug sense of superiority and his deliberate efforts to hurt? Then can we tell him to bite a large one? How about if his beliefs are irrelevant? But his actions aren't? How about if he didn't have you cheering him on to yet greater ugliness all because you both mouth these pious froths and think you're kindred?

And I mean that in the nicest possible place.
Chung gets attacked for his fakery and his malice. You get attacked for your utter inability to connect with people in your nutso robotic schizoid ravings. Prattle that consists of words that separately hold meaning, but joined only hold your egotism. Who can you possibly believe you are to lecture others? If only the sinless can cast aspersions, are you so perfect that you can hold your incoherent "wisdom" to others to tell them how to live? Clear answer...
Peddle your unintelligent crap elsewhere.

Thusly, Carol, will be blessed in the same manner as His prophets.
May God add His blessings to the application of His Word here on Usenet, in Christ's holy name.

What is a matter with you that you are so focused on others and not the face we see of you?
You do not have to take Andrew as your doctor, there are many thousands more in the world. I must admit that I have never witnessed a post which has attacked your skills either in such a way, despite the apparent anger you carry in your heart.
We can all chose our skilled men to do their work as they have been trained, I believe that America is a free country.
It would be wrong of us to have a negative emotion for others (i.e. envy) and apply this emotion to an attack on their faith, as all faiths are full of people from all walks of life. Hence, the wrongful emotion is turned on those who are simply your neighbours, some of who have never had the opportunities to experience a blessed life as you have. It becomes and illogical act.
We all fall short of God's glory Bob......all of us.
I have never doubted that you are a wonderful cook, I know no different and you certainly have an enthusiasm for what you do which is quite refreshing to read at times. Having grown up in a family of bakers and cooks I know how your skills can be central to a great celebration, but never more than Christ.
Remember couples are married before The Lord, children are christened, funerals directed, community projects are blessed, charity monies collected. He is to millions of people their saviour, guide, comforter and much, much more. They call He comes, we cannot, not even Andrew unless the Holy Spirit guides us to a specific task. We are all part of His body each with our own function.
I tell you this now, the chef served His food to Christ, the doctor couldn't treat His wounds, but neither the doctor or chef saved Christ from His death on the cross.
You will always have the freewill to leave Him a seat at the head of your tables.

Here's one you should examine carefully:
Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Pride
The Reservoir of All Sin
"The Devil, the proud spirit, cannot endure to be mocked." - St. Thomas More, 16th Century "God is stern in dealing with the arrogant, but to the humble He shows kindness." - Proverbs 3:34 "Hatred of God comes from pride. It is contrary to the love of God ..." - The Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2094 Overweening pride, arrogance, haughtiness: these have been the stuff of tragedy. Vanity, fussiness, delicacy: the stuff of comedy. These are all forms of self-delusion, and paper-thin masks over rotting features. Pride and vanity refuse the truth about who we are and substitute illusions for reality. While vanity is mostly concerned with appearance, pride is based in a real desire to be God, at least in one's own circle. The first requirement of pride is spiritual blindness. Any glimpse of God reveals our frailty and sinfulness, just as a well-lit bathroom mirror shows the flaws in our complexion. Like Oedipus, we are driven to gouge out our eyes at the sight of our wretchedness and wander away from our heavenly home, with no purpose or direction. Unlike Oedipus, we build up myriad illusions about who we are and what we are about. We can busy ourselves with career, family and even church work, thinking we are being driven by a strong work ethic, moral values or the fire of the Holy Spirit. In reality, we may be running away from God by running away from ourselves. Nearly everyone else can see that we are putting on a show, but not us. Our coworkers may hate us (they are just jealous), our children may self-destruct or leave us (they are ungrateful), and we may never truly pray but merely stand in the presence of a god we have created, but we still refuse to see. A second requirement of pride, indeed a symptom, is that each challenge to our pride drives us harder to improve our illusion of productivity, sanctity or compassion. It has been said that the definition of a zealot is "one who has lost sight of his goal, and so redoubles his efforts." We might say the zealot works twice as hard to keep up appearances. When we hear sermons about pride, or read this text, we may be tempted to think of all the people we know who really need to read it. We need to read it. Pride is about us, and we would love to retain our illusions by pointing to others, saying: "But they are very proud. I really don't think I'm that great, but they do." The best pride detector is this: how much are we bothered by the pride of others? And if we feel attacked, is our response: "other people are worse." A strong indicator of pride is competitiveness. There is nothing wrong with playing to win, provided the joy is in the playing. If our happiness depends on defeating others or knowing our child is the star of the team, we are building a world of illusion. At death, all illusions are stripped away. God's judgment will not take into account our bank balance, how much we own, how smart our children are or how much self-esteem we have. All that will matter is whether He recognizes us (Matthew 25:12). There are three ways to destroy Pride, and they must all be taken together: 1) Be grateful to anyone and everyone. Treat even the things people are expected to do as great gifts. Be grateful for your food, your change at Burger King, rain, life itself. Thank everyone. 2) Beg forgiveness of God for the sin of Pride. Go before Him in prayer every day or every few hours and implore His mercy. The more this offends you, the more Pride you have. 3) Ask God for a spirit of Humility and Gratitude. Read Philippians 2:3-11 and imitate it. Understand that without God's Grace, we will never cast away our illusions. Ask God to break your pride and vanity using whatever it takes: illness, loss of friends, loss of family, public humiliation. This is unbelievably difficult to request, and every fiber of our being fights it. We protest it is not fair, or "God doesn't work that way." My friend, what good is health, friends, family, a good reputation, if you have no real love for God, but only a hollow illusion? In the end, all but true love for God is lost, so count all else but God as loss now. For continued reading, the following are a few good books: "Mere Christianity," by C.S. Lewis "New Seeds of Contemplation," by Thomas Merton "The Cost of Discipleship," by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Step 2 - Forgive Another aspect of drawing closer to God involves forgiveness. Failure to forgive our enemies will result in our not being forgiven; "Forgive us our trespasses (sins) as we forgive those who trespass (sin) against us". In the Lords Prayer, we are asking God to be as forgiving to us as we are to others. If we do not forgive our brothers, how can we expect God to forgive us? "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14,15). And again in Mark 11:25, "But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too". And once more in Luke 6:37, "Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it will all come back on you. If you forgive others, you will be forgiven".

We all have a reservoir of sin of varying degree, but that degree is insignificant against the greater glory of the Father. If it weren't we would be very, very close to His glory. Who would this be who is so near to God amongst any of us? Is it for us to know ?
The love is as unconditional as His forgiveness is, but it is up to each of us to have a good conscience toward God. We stumble, it's our nature to be that way. We can be all the things which belong to human nature, including proud.
It's why Jesus is who He is and we are who we are. With forgiveness we can find the strength in Him to keep in good conscience toward God.
Better to stumble forwards in His strength than to stumble backwards by the pull of evil.

I don't really mean that.
Whatever that garbled sentence about attacking my skills means, it shows once again how stunted is your ability to think and write. Who cares what you "must admit?"
> We can all chose our skilled men to do their work as they have been > trained, I believe that America is a free country. Wonderful. Clear thinking. Brilliantly creative punctuation.

Hence, the wrongful emotion > is turned on those who are simply your neighbours, some of who have > never had the opportunities to experience a blessed life as you have. > It becomes and illogical act. Having grown up in a family of bakers and > cooks I know how your skills can be central to a great celebration, but > never more than Christ. Blah, blah, blah...
I don't cook much anymore except at home. What I do is write professionally, consult with large and small companies, make commercial food products, do radio and TV work, teach, do a lot of charity and volunteer work. I have been a cook at various times in my life. Also a restaurant owner, country club operator, resort manager, international marketer, copywriter, photographer and construction laborer. None of these functions describe me. In aggregate, they describe part of the journey I've taken, but they aren't my identity.
It's hard to see what you might be good at. Impossible to imagine you as a competent operator given the garbled thinking and self-directed speech. Blather.
Unfortunately for you, your blather does define you. It demonstrates your sad lack of skill with language. It demonstrates your crippled sense of communicating with other people. It demonstrates the single-minded, humorless, blurry thinking you shower these screens with every time you post. It demonstrates that you really care only for the pious mouthings; not the realities behind them. Failed form over trivial content.
Hit the road. You have nothing to say to me.

Also, note that Exodus 16:16 continues to remind us that 16 oz plus 16 oz makes 2 pounds, which is "a certain measure of weight," which is what "omer" literally means in Hebrew.

I am sorry if my English abilities, or perhaps lack of them, offend you, but I am glad that you are having a fulfilled life and still finding some time for voluntary work. English, language, spelling and so forth are simply a common ground between two or more people. As long as there is sufficient language between us we can talk to all manner of people in all walks of life. This is a blessing and a joy we share with relatively few people on the planet.
We are who we are you know. We don't have to be 'good' at anything and we are certainly not less or more than anyone else in Gods eyes.
In Christ's love Carol T

What we are unable to do, He is able :-) Truly, I imagine the Apostle Paul was not unlike Bob Pastorio before his encounter with God on the "road to Damascus."
At His service,
Andrew

Andrew B. Chung, MD/PhD - 18 Feb 2005 05:27 GMT > If we attack a man's professional integrity because of his faith it > would say volumes about our own depth of unresolved sin. Belief in God [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > In Christ's love > Carol T Anticipating Bob Pastorio's probably angry response of hurling insults at you, Lord Christ teaches from Matthew 5:
11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
You will remain in my prayers, dear Carol, whom I love, in Lord Christ's holy name.
May he continue to bless you with eternal life and the wonderful riches of His everlasting kingdom.
