observation concerning diastolic BP readings

in passing, Hello Dr. Chung, Zee, and Bill.. may 2005 be good to you !

I had a flash this morning while taking my BP sitting in bed nearly
every morning.  In general, I'm always disappointed by the diastolic
reading first thing in the morning : it's always high.
This morning was no exception, except for a second measure taken
just after I got up for a look around the house.  Diastolic pressure
dropped 10-15 points.

I'd like your comments concerning the following thoughts.  As I
understand it, diastolic pressure readings indirectly measure the
elasticity of the arteries. The arteries act like a spring release to
assist the heart on the upflow of the blood.  Without this, the heart
has to pump harder.

It seems to me that the vascular system upon waking up in the morning
may still "stiff" in the same way legs and arms are stiff when we first
get up and therefore measure a higher diastolic.  Upon getting up,
going to the bathroom, opening shutters, the vascular system gets warmed
up and loosens up, thereby leading to lower diastolic readings.

What do you think, where are the flaws or the merits of these
suppositions !?

  Woke up this morning
Snow still about  Beauty and Pain
Walked down the hallway  Breath OK

Kitchen said clean me
I said afterwards
Children went about
I stayed home

Time to shop
Time to work out
Time to ready dinner

It goes by fast
Vascular system on auto.

Hi Liam!  Flaws are very hard to ascertain  in a temporal world.

Who knows?

It's a pleasure to read you and to think about you !

"Who knows" indeed !   I have my doubts !

Grave doubts and thanks how the world wakes up in the morning

even after nights spent under a nearly full moon..

One day we should scheme to surprise Zee and plan to show up together

at her doorstep !

That'll be the day..

You know all of this in on your computer now.   Consider looking at
Limewire.   If you have a learning curve that seems step....write me and
can help.   I'm learning too.

The arteries have a capacitance to keep the diastolic pressure from
going to zero in between heart beats.

Without this, the body would starve in between heart beats.

It would have to be the other way around to explain a higher diastolic.

More likely is that there is some fluid shift away from the vasculature
into the tissues upon arising and walking about. Also there will be
increased renal output because of the increased cardiac output.  This
reduced vascular volume will lead to a decreased diastolic pressure.

See above.
