Sounds heard via a stethoscope..

I've just purchased an arm band type blood pressure meter which
relies on a stethoscope for taking readings.

With it the onset of sound made upon the initial rush of blood
is easy to hear and a reading of the systolic pressure is
easily gotten.

Where I have problems, is determining the diastolic reading.

The sound heard seems to drop in frequency, no longer rushing
but thumping, eventually disappearing..  It's hard to say
what's happening and the readings could be off by as much as 10-20
points.

What can I do to improve my readings ?

My present stethoscope is a cheaply made model.  Should I purchase
an expensive one ??

Thanks for your help..

Be consistent and read the diastolic as when you first no longer hear
any more sounds.

No.  It should be adequate for measuring blood pressure.

You are welcome.  All praises belong to my heavenly Father Whom I love

By that measure, my diastolic readings are in the mid 80s at night,
in the high 90s first thing in the morning

Or to include the systolic  130+/80 nights, 140++/90s mornings.

Is this cause for alarm, considering that I have had a 3ple bypass
2-1/2 years ago ?

Thanks for your advice, spiritual and physical ;)

Too high, liaM.  Optimal would be 115/75 mmHg.
