Doe worries a lot about folks getting iron overload.

Thank you for your prayers, I need them. Its only the medication
that's keeps me alive all 12x per day. Regards the grapefruit theory, is it
that the juice dissolves the enteric coating of the long acting drug and
therefore you get the dosage to quickly? Doe's warning is to technical for
me to understand...john.m

Would suggest you praise God. Everything that I am and that I do is
because of Him.

We are all alive through His grace.

No. It has a substance that inhibits how the body metabolizes (breaks
down) the drugs.

Hope you understand what I have written.
You remain in my prayers, dear John whom I love.

Doe is a nut known in many newsgroups for his obsession with iron and
his rehashing of widely known information often where it is off topic;
he should be ignored. The link Zee posted is one of many with helpful
information about the way grapefruit juice interacts with drugs (I'm not
medical, but I think it potentiates the medication rather than
interfering with it). By all means if you use grapefruit discuss with
your doctor how it might interact with your own meds.

Thanks Don ,that's what I was thinking re doe" rusty" theories. I saw
my pharmacist today and showed him a copy of this posting,I don't think he
was very pleased to see it!and referred to the Mims directory which they all
have including the GPs' and there was no reference to it at all , as being
contra indicated,so I said that perhaps there will be when someone sues the
drug company, they must know about it. It will be interesting when I see my
cardiologist next week ! john.m

Three years ago neither my UK doctor or pharmacist knew about the reaction
of verapamil to grapefruit when I mentioned it. Now it is a warning on the
pack.

I will not quote verbatim as I can't, but one prominent doctor/author on
Sunday morning program said that grapefruit should not be eaten when using
ANY medication. To be on the safe side, cutting out eating grapefruit seems
like a pretty easy thing to do if one is concerned about any reaction.
