You need some cholesterol for your brain to function. I do not recall any
specific studies, but I'm pretty sure that somewhere a vegetarian has had a
heart attack. The Atkins diet, not accepted by many, had a lot of meat in it.

Eating more vegetables can help, but not always. For example, French fries or
things with a lot of butter are not that good.

You might be interested in this study which showed people in China had one of
the lowest rates of high cholesterol in the world.

You also need cholesterol for you ovaries or testes and your adrenal gland
to function. Cholesterol is a bulding block for steriod hormones, like
testosterone, estrogen and adrenal hormones.

Conviently, your liver makes cholesterol, so you don't need cholesterol in
your diet.

No. You can completely avoid fat and still have high TC and CAD.

India has one of highest ratios of CAD despite high number of
vegetarians.

Hmmm. Vegetarians (such as beef cattle) have as much cholesterol as carnivores
(such as trout or salmon).  :-)
