Slowing the Growth of Health Care Costs.

"To the Editor: The limitation of the article by Mongan et al. (April 3 issue) on options for slowing the growth of health care costs is the acceptance only of reforms that will not irritate powerful, entrenched corporate and labor interests. Our system is costing us perhaps twice as much as it should. We need to target the fattest cats and slim them down. Hospitals currently seek consolidation rather than efficiencies, charge a fortune for routine services, and pay higher wages rather than taking strikes. Insurance companies add so little at so high a charge. Pharmaceutical companies advertise, develop frivolously repetitive drugs, and charge without restraint. Medical specialists in some areas operate and serve dying patients with little restraint.

The interventions suggested in the article are popguns against a profit-bound army. Restraint in our mixed system needs to come from government, not voluntary acts by corporations. Schlesinger has identified a cycle of government activism at 30 years, the last peak being 40 years ago. It is possible, then, that suggestions that are more challenging to entrenched interests should be entertained."

A Spirit-guided comment:

The "fattest cats" will not slim down until they start eating less, down to the right amount:

Hunger is wonderful ! ! !

It's how we know what GOD desires, which is all that is good.

Yes, hunger is our knowledge of good versus evil that Adam and Eve paid for with their and our immortal lives.

Neither the original editorial letter in the New England Journal of
Medicine (NEJM) nor the letter to the editor excerpt above were
discussing weight or weight loss or diets. It was an discussion of the
economics or health care. The phrase "fattest cats" was a not
referring to obese felines. It was not referring to the body weight of
anything or anyone, yet Chung chose to use the literal meaning of the
phrase to push his own agenda.

This is dishonest and deliberately misleading behavior by Dr. Chung.
Alas, what more do we expect from this mentally ill, dishonest,
unemployable ex-physician?

Indeed, they are oblivious to the real reason for the "Growth of
Health Care Costs" being the growing size of American waistlines
including there own.

In addition to misspelling "there" Chung unwittingly confirms that he
is intentionally twisting the meaning of words and the intent of NEJM
articles in order to push his own agenda.Chung demonstrate how
maliciously dishonest he's become. The NEJM article was discussing
medical economics, not the weight, diet, or eating habits of Americans
or the size of their waistlines.

I've also removed all of the headers to newsgroups that he added,
since this topic has nothing to do with the Christian newsgroups and
they are sick and tired of Chung's nonsense. I try to confine my
replies to Chung to only sci.med.cardiology where the original post
was made.

I fixed the headers again. The good people of the Christian and
diabetes support groups don't need to be exposed to your lies. You are
as much of a Christian as you are a competent doctor. And we all know
what sort of a doctor you are.

Indeed, there are no health care costs for those of us who are walking
with GOD :-)

That is bull sh.t again. Hospitals are filled with sick people who believe they
are walking with god. The delusion is yours.

It remains my choice to continue writing truthfully.

delusional atheists:

You do not write truthfully, the truth is not in you! People who "walk with god"
are sick and fill the health care system. That is a fact.Look at it this way.
Christians out number atheists by a large percentage. If this is the case
percentage wise we would not need as many hospitals as we have.

You sound ungrateful.

What makes you think
you would be grateful for a health care system,
when you are not even grateful for life?

The Clocks
A guy dies and goes to heaven. It's a slow day for St. Peter, so, upon passing
the entrance test, St. Peter says, "I'm not very busy, today, why don't you let
me show you around?"

The guy thinks this is a great idea and graciously accepts the offer. St. Peter
shows him all the sights, the golf course, the reading room and library, the
observation room, the cafeteria and finally, they come to a HUGE room full of
clocks.

The guy asks, "What's up with these clocks?"

St. Peter explains, "Everyone on earth has a clock that shows how much time he
has left on earth. When a clock runs out of time, the person dies and comes to
the Gates to be judged."

The guy thinks this makes sense but notices that some of the clocks are going
faster than others. He asks why is that?

St. Peter explains, "Every time a living person tells a lie, it speeds his
clock."

This also makes sense, so the guy takes one last look around the room before
leaving and notices one clock in the center of the ceiling. On this clock, both
hands are spinning at an unbelievable rate. So he asks, "What's the story with
that clock?"

"Oh, that," St. Peter replies, "That's OJ Simpson's clock. We decided to use it
as a fan

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Little Mary was not the best student in Sunday school. Usually she slept through
the class.

One day the teacher called on her while she was napping, "tell me, Mary, who
created the universe?" When Mary didn't stir, little Johnny, an altruistic boy
seated in the chair behind her, took a pin and jabbed her in the rear. "God
almighty!" Shouted Mary and the teacher said, "very good" and Mary fell back
asleep.

A while later the teacher asked Mary, "who is our lord and savior," but, Mary
didn't even stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to the rescue and
stuck her again. "Jesus Christ!" Shouted Mary and the teacher said, "very good,"
and Mary fell back asleep.

Then the teacher asked Mary a third question. "What did eve say to Adam after
she had her twenty-third child?" And again, Johnny jabbed her with the pin. This
time Mary jumped up and shouted, "if you stick that damn thing in me one more
time, I'll break it in half!"

The teacher fainted.
