I had to have my second son and my daughter by classical c-section
because I had been told that I must have these again because I had
already had one.  Skin glue and bandaids were not enough to keep me
together those times.  I got metal staples like a zipper on those 2.

Funny thing was that the doctor left huge black sutures in me which
abcessed for 15 months until I went to a wound specialist because a
red/black bubble was fixing to erupt out of my skin. The doctor
eventually sent his employee to walmart to get a crochet hook to dig
the stitches out.  We did that for several weeks while he complained
that those stitches should have never been used.  He took pictures for
me and told me to sue the doctor.  He eventually had to give me a
spinal and excise the necrotic tissue.  It left a hole in my stomach
from Jan. 2, 2003 until April.  The first packing included 7 12-ply
4x4 guaze sponges...yeah, that's a big wad.  I removed it myself and
repacked it daily.  Nobody wanted to help me in my family because it
was very gross pulling that gauze out every day because it would stick
to the hole and it had to be yanked out.  I was offered home-health to
do it for me but I declined.  I did not want any medical people in my
house.  I did it myself.  My family did take plenty of video because
to them, it was like a horror movie.  I laughed because I knew I was
alive and getting better.  Eventually it was 6 gauze, 5 gauze, 3
gauze....and then it was 2x2 gauze and then it was just a puckered
hole.  I never sued because I did not think it was as big of a mistake
as everybody else did.  I kept thinking, "this is a cake-walk"
compared to what happened to me at Parkland.  My husband was
completely over-the-edge by this last medical misadventure.  He
freaked out and left on Easter Sunday April 20th, 2003.

The boys and I were going to Sunday School.  We forgot the camera, (I
wanted to take their pictures in the bluebonnets) so we went home and
daddy had half his stuff packed.  He had planned to leave while we
were at church.  It was a wierd day.  I was relieved though because
now he would not be yelling at me daily to, "Get up and DO something,
go to work, there is nothing wrong with you.  You have a college
degree, you can make more money than me.  If something was wrong with
you, the doctors would have told you by now.  You can't tell me that
they ALL have lied to you...THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU OR ELSE A
DOCTOR WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU BY NOW."  Yep, I was glad to see him go
because he never could wrap his brain around my situation.  Neither
one of us knew at the time that my "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" was due
to brainstem injury at Parkland on May 25th, 1997.

It was wrong that he could not believe me instead choosing to believe
the doctors.  I found that he was in denial because to believe the
TRUTH would be to admit that his world was not a safe place.  I don't
blame him for handling things the way he has.  He has done the best he
can do.

The best thing about us splitting up is that I met the love of my
life, Jim.  Ironically, we met on Halloween night 2003.  We have been
together ever since.  He has no problem believing me because his world
was never a very safe place.  Together we have Morgan, our daughter.
Jim tells everybody he has 3 kids.  He jumped in and became a dad for
the boys from the beginning.  He is a rough, tough, country guy whom
has more real decency and sense of right than any doctor I have met.
Funny thing about it, he grew up hungry.

You are right again.  My bill says I was admitted at 1:28AM on May
26th, 1997 and discharged at 4:58PM on June 2, 1997.  I got there on
May 25th, 1997 which I suspect is Barret's true birthday.  Because I
had such a hard time getting to fill out a birth certificate while I
was in Parkland, I called Social Security when I got home.  I called
to complain and the lady gasped and cried, "It's been 10 days and
there is no record that your son exists."  I told her that did not
surprise me because the hospital seemed to have many dysfunctions.
She said, "You don't understand, All children born in the U.S. must be
registered within 24 hours of birth.  It has been 10 days and there is
no record of your son."  She asked if he was alive.  She told me I was
in trouble and to consult an attorney.

My dad, Wayne D. Halvarson, told me to be honest.  That was how I was
raised.  He said if you tell the truth life is easier.  If you lie you
will have to keep lying.  He also told me the least trustworthy people
are fake Christains because it is easy for them to lie and then get it
off their conscience by saying a prayer.  He told me, "There is no
long-haired guy in the sky that takes away  your lies."  He is the one
that made me not believe in Jesus...he is also the one who taught me
to believe in TRUTH and LOVE which is GOD.  He may not have been right
about everything but he did raise me to be a good person.  He told
people, "Laura will tell you how it is, she is not afraid to tell the
truth.  You might not like it but it will be the truth."  Thanks to
dad, my favorite Huckleberry.
