After a salty meal, say 1-2 grams of sodium, how long will the effects
last? Effects such as water retention and increased blood pressure (if
you're sodium sensitive).

What if you drink a couple quarts of water shortly after? Won't the
sodium be gone as soon as the water is?

Thanks

For normal people, there would be no effect.

For hypertensive people, who tend to be more "sodium avid," there can be blood pressure elevation for 1-2 days.

As a general rule, there is increased blood pressure with increased sodium intake for hypertensive folks.

> What if you drink a couple quarts of water shortly after?

Would not ameliorate the increased blood pressure effect.

> Won't the sodium be gone as soon as the water is?

No.  A hypertensive person tends to be "sodium avid."

What?? Normal people get thirsty after a salty meal, for example. I'm
referring to all the common effects of a salty meal. How long do the
effects last?

Thanks.

There would be no clinically meaningful effect for normal people.

> Normal people get thirsty after a salty meal, for example.

Feeling thirsty is an indication of need for water and does compel
folks to drink.

If you are referring to thirst, most folks drink more water during the
meal so that after they have eaten (and consumed water) they are no
longer thirsty.
