However, on careful reading, I find pretty much the same thing I
found on my original search. There doesn't really appear to be a
strong correlation between heavy alcohol consumption and
atherosclerosis per se, although there is with respect to
myopathy and strokes.

The earlier cited study is more persuasive because they documented a
dose response.
