or some say, by evil spirits, like horses ridden by horsemen.

They have faces of men [Rev 9:7], as they are human.

They have breastplates of iron [Rev 9:9], as their cruel,
self-righteous hearts cannot be reached.

They have long hair like women [Rev 9:8], which identifies them as
devout and religious, like the nazarites of the OT.

They have sharp, lion-like teeth, because their doctrine is fierce,
and they love to intimidate others by their threatenings of hell
fire.

They have tails like the tails of scorpions, as it is their doctrine
that hurts people; Isaiah said: "The ancient and honourable, he is
the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail."
[Isaiah 9:15]

Rev 9:6
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and
shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

This describes their false doctrine, which is based on the idea of
an immortal soul, that early church fathers imported from pagan
philosophy.

Their king is Abaddon, or Destroyer, Job 26:6, or Apollyon (Apollo
Parnopius, god of plagues. Apollo was a pagan god of prophecy).
