My husband has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer (we're not sure
what stage yet) and something was detected on his kidney with
ultrasound so he is going for a Cat Scan next week. We're just trying
to learn everything we can about it all but I'm wondering is there any
chance the kidney and bladder could both be cancerous or is this
unlikely as I've read kidney cancer moves to pancreas and bowel.
Thanks
Donna

Hello Donna,
It looks (to me) that you've been reading something like this
http://blcwebcafe.org/metatcc.asp
You may wish to join in with them eventually, but stay with us until you
obtain the staging information.
Some (usually Americans) try experimental therapies; Steph will tell you
what's common and reasonable for any cancer/staging. Steph's from Canada
(as you and I are).
So, before conjecturing, hang in there for the diagnostic process. Go
with your husband, if you can, and write down what they say.
If it's really, really, really bad news, we're set up to be with you (on
the other cancer newsgroup).
We'll be here when you have more information.

Simultaneous kidney & bladder cancer is not that uncommon, they share a
common lining (transitional cells). The tumor arising from this lining
can move in either direction or be triggered at both sites, often due to
toxins found when a detailed medical history is taken. RCC is a
different type of kidney cancer that metastasizes quite rapidly via the
bloodstream and usually lands in the lungs or bones. This type has
nothing to do with 'bladder cancer' so if he also had RCC it would be a
big coincidence.

Cancer of the bladder and cancer of the renal pelvis (the top of the ureter)
are related. Cancer of the kidney proper is not.
